Gil­bertsville man stabbed in Pottstown

POTTSTOWN >> A man is in crit­i­cal con­di­tion and an­other is in cus­tody af­ter a stab­bing was re­ported in Pottstown late Thurs­day night.

Of­fi­cers from the Pottstown Po­lice De­part­ment re­sponded to the 500 block of North Franklin Street for a re­port of a stab­bing on Thurs­day, Jan. 3, at ap­prox­i­mately 11:55 p.m.

Upon ar­rival, of­fi­cers lo­cated the vic­tim, Joshua Shu­pard, 20, of Gil­bertsville. The vic­tim had a stab wound to the chest and was be­ing ren­dered aid by a res­i­dent, Joel Glover-Na­tion, who came out­side upon hear­ing a dis­tur­bance, po­lice said.

Good­will Am­bu­lance per­son­nel ar­rived and took over care of the vic­tim. He was trans­ported by am­bu­lance to the Read­ing Hospi­tal where he un­der­went emer­gency surgery. He is listed in crit­i­cal con­di­tion.

Of­fi­cers also lo­cated the sus­pect, Sean Em­mel, 24, of Pottstown as well as a wit­ness to the in­ci­dent. Em­mell was taken into cus­tody at the scene with­out in­ci­dent.

Em­mell is cur­rently await­ing a pre­lim­i­nary ar­raign­ment on charges of crim­i­nal at­tempt at homi­cide, ag­gra­vated as­sault and re­lated of­fenses, ac­cord­ing to au­thor­i­ties.

Po­lice have not spec­i­fied what cir­cum­stances led to the stab­bing.
