The longest-tenured football coach in Schuylkill Valley history has resigned.

Jeff Chillot has stepped down after 12 seasons with the Panthers and 30 seasons coaching football.

He is the second coach in Section 2 of the Berks Football League to resign in the last month. Hamburg’s Chuck Kutz announced plans to leave following a season-ending victory over Schuylkill Valley in the Frost Bowl.

Chillot was named head coach for the 2009 season and immediately pumped life into a moribund program. He produced a winning record in his second season and district playoff teams in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 despite playing with small squads. The Panthers had been to the playoffs just once before he arrived.

The Panthers matched the school record for wins with an 8-4 finish in 2012.

His teams also qualified for the Eastern Conference playoffs twice.

The last few seasons have been a little tougher. The Panthers finished 1-6 this season and with losing records in each of the last seven seasons.

Chillot leaves with a 5372 record and the most wins in program history. No one else has coached the team longer than four seasons.

He came to Schuylkill Valley from the college ranks. He coached three seasons at Kutztown University, where he was offensive coordinator, and 13 seasons at Albright, the final seven as offensive coordinator. He was on staff at Pottstown High School for two seasons prior to that.

Chillot was a defensive back at St. Pius X and Shippensburg University.

He has t aught at Schuylkill Valley since 2002; he currently is the chairman of the math department.
