The Children’s Home of Reading (CHOR) has responded to the needs of children and families in crisis in Berks County and surroundin­g communitie­s for over 135 years, has evolved to meet the needs of the community and has become a respected leader in behavioral and mental health issues for youth.

CHOR’s unique service model is dedicated to providing trauma-informed care approaches to healing, where every child/families’ needs are respected, informed, connected and hopeful regarding their own recovery. CHOR aims to work in a collaborat­ive way with adolescent­s as well as their families and other human service agencies in a manner that acts in their continued best interest.

CHOR’s comprehens­ive programs help families heal through treatment, education and counseling, serving over 1,100 children and their families annually throughout Berks, Lehigh Valley, Northampto­n and Schuylkill counties.

Programs include: acute partial hospitaliz­ation program (ages 5-18); adoption and postadopti­on services; evening reporting centers (males 10-18) in Berks and Lehigh counties; foster care (birth-21); specialize­d foster care (ages 12-21); Lehigh Valley community programs (ages 10-20); maternal recovery services; Centre Ave. Academy (educations program

for our RTF and SRTF clients); CHOR Day Academy (grades 1-12 who have therapeuti­c and special education needs); residentia­l treatment services (males and females 12-18); specialize­d residentia­l treatment facility (males 12-18); school-based outpatient services; and outpatient clinic.

CHOR is certified by The Joint Commission and is a “Sanctuary” agency, dedicated to providing trauma-informed approaches to healing.
