Reading Choral Society

-

Founded in 1875, Reading Choral Society has a long and proud tradition of presenting vocal music, particularly symphonic masterworks, but also exploring and interpreting other music genres. Under the energetic and nurturing leadership of Dr. Graham Bier, our 12th music director, the Reading Choral Society continues to pursue its mission to Perform, Foster and Advance Choral Music in the Reading and Berks County Community with a balance between honoring our heritage and looking to the future.

Throughout the pandemic this fall, Reading Choral Society has been able to continue with weekly indoor rehearsals in small groups (10 -15 people) wearing face masks and socially distanced. At the same time on Tuesdays many members rehearse weekly on Zoom. Our four very talented Section Leaders have been able to assist our music director at these rehearsals.

Each year, Reading Choral Society offers scholarships to high school and college students that are pursuing studies in college focused on vocal/choral music. This past year we were able to offer a total of $5,000 to four college students for the current school year. Reading Choral Society hosts Gloria Singers, a workshop and concert for parochial students in Berks County. This event has been held for ten years and will continue when we are able to sing together once again. Our community singing workshops have also continued, but have become virtual this year.

The Board, Staff and Members of the Reading Choral Society are grateful for the continued support from the community. While we are not able to currently have concerts with ticket sales, we have been able to create videos for the community to enjoy on the RCS YouTube channel, which contains past concert clips, workshops and current “concerts”. Until we can be together again, take care & stay healthy!
