Gov. Mifflin running back Nick Singleton has been invited to play in the 2022 All-American Bowl, a national football all-star game schedule to be played next January.

Singleton, a two-time All-State pick and a three-time Berks rushing champ, will be one of only 100 players to play in the game, should he elect to play. He has not yet committed to play.

The 2021 game, scheduled for this month, was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.

Singleton, a junior, rushed for

1,303 yards and scored 24 TDs in eight games last season as the Mustangs won their first District 3 championship and finished 7-1, reaching the PIAA Class

5A semifinals for the first time.

He rushed for 100 or more yards in every game and is on pace to become Berks’ all-time rushing and scoring leader.

Also this week, Singleton picked up another scholarship offer, from Auburn. It is his 33rd

Division I offers and sixth from the Southeastern Conference, following offers from Florida, Missouri, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and South Carolina.

He picked up his first major college offer before his sophomore season from Penn State. Big Ten schools such as Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin and Michigan State followed suit.

A full list of invitees for the 2022 All-American Bowl is not available; rosters will not be finalized until later this year.

Five Pennsylvania players were selected for the 2021 game: lineman Nolan Rucci of Warwick, lineman Elijah Jeudy of Northeast

and three players from St. Joe’s Prep — quarterback Kyle McCord, linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. and wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.

According to NBC, which owns the game, the All-American Bowl is annually the most-watched high school all-star event, with more than 4.5 million unique television viewers and over 25,000 in attendance.

More than 450 future NFL draft picks and 17 Heisman finalists have played in the game, including Odell Beckham Jr., Christian McCaffrey, Tim Tebow, Derrick Henry, Joe Thomas and Trevor Lawrence.
