The Pottsville School District has tapped Schuylkill Valley High School’s principal as its new leader.

The Pottsville School Board on Wednesday, April 14, hired Dr. Sarah Yoder as the new superintendent, beginning May 1.

Yoder’s contract will run through June 30, 2024, with a starting salary of $130,000.

Yoder, who lives in Pottsville, has been principal at Schuylkill Valley High School since May 2020.

Schuylkill Valley Superintendent Michael Mitchell Jr. said he’s sorry to lose Yoder, but happy for her success.

“While we are disappointed to see Dr. Yoder leaving our school district as the high school principal, we would like to thank her for her leadership and hard work during the past 10 months,” he said. “She has the opportunity to serve as the superintendent in the school district she lives in. It was apparently too great of an opportunity to pass up. We wish her the best in her new role.”

Mitchell said the district administration has a solid plan for replacing Yoder and is finalizing the details so it can be taken to the school board for final approval.

Yoder is a Kutztown native and graduate of Kutztown High School. Before becoming principal at Schuylkill Valley High School she was superintendent of the Saint Clair School District in Schuylkill County.

She has also worked as a principal and director of curriculum in the Schuylkill Haven School District, as well as a teacher at Schuylkill Valley and Pottsville high schools.
