The Exeter Township Planning Commission got a look Monday night, Aug. 16, at a sketch plan for a proposed expansion of Exeter Self Storage at 5520-5550 Perkiomen Ave.

Plans include the construction of seven buildings on the 5.5-acre site to be used for rental storage purposes.

Although square footage of the individual buildings was not discussed, 5520 Perk Owner LLC, owners of the property, said they plan to add approximately 56,000 square feet to their existing 28,000 for a total of about 84,000 square feet.

Buildings include a onestory climate controlled facility likely exceeding 25,000 square feet to be constructed on the original concrete pad where Zeswitz Music Store was formerly located, five buildings ranging in length from 120 to 190 feet for regular indoor storage units, and a small office building.

Owners will need to obtain dimensional and use variances from township zoners due to expansion restrictions in the township commons zoning district.

When the company originally developed the site, the zoning was considered highway commercial, but has since changed.

The company plans 24 parking spaces including three ADA-compliant spaces, landscaping and outdoor lighting.

An application has not yet been submitted to the township, but planners were in favor of the sketch.

“This will be great for the township, especially the improved appearance,” Planning Commission Chairman Glenn R. Powell said.
