Salem Church in Lenhartsville will once again host its annual Car Show and Pig Roast.

Held at Salem Church, 2150 Old Route 22, Lenhartsville, the daylong event on Sept. 18 will also include a tractor display, trucks and motorcycles, live music and silent auction. As in years past, church organizers expect hundreds of visitors throughout the day for the 12th annual event.

Church members are very excited that the event is returning to Salem after a cancelled event in 2020 due to the pandemic.

“It’s always a lot of fun,” Otto Schick, event chair, says of the day, “and it’s always our goal to be in the community as a church. We want to bring people into God’s kingdom and this is a great way to introduce them to Salem Church.”

Shick coordinates the efforts of dozens of volunteers, some of whom prepare food, work with car entries or ask local businesses for donations. Many more volunteer at the actual event.

Gates for the cars, bikes and tractors will open at 11 a.m. with the display and show planned from noon to 3 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to top ten cars, top three motorcycles and top three trucks. Participants may also win random buckets of carpampering products.

Roy’s Gym will perform classic oldies outside, with Pastor Dave Long expected to join them for his annual rendition of Barbara Ann. Inside the church visitors will find a silent auction and activities for children including the second annual scavenger hunt challenge. Church members will also staff a prayer table indoors, with guests welcome to sit and visit or fill out a paper slip with prayer requests.

Meals, available from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. while supplies last, include pulled pork from local hogs raised on a nearby farm, along with applesauce, macaroni salad, baked beans and roll. Homemade desserts are available by donation. Almost 1,000 meals were served in 2019 and the church hopes to match that number in 2021. Advance meal tickets are suggested.

All events are held rain or shine and proceeds benefit the ministries of Salem Church.

The car show is free to visit. Show vehicles must pay a registration fee. A discounted rate is available through Sept. 9 and will include a free meal ticket to the pig roast. Additional meals will be sold, with advanced meal tickets available through the church office.

For details, to register for the car show or to purchase advance meal tickets, contact the church at 610-562-5033, WeAreSalemChurch@gmail.com; or facebook.com/WeAreSalem.
