Church hosts first fall festival since 2019
Schwarzwald United Church of Christ in Exeter Township hosted its annual fall festival Saturday, Oct. 23, with fun activities for children.
Children painted pumpkins and decorated cookies and took part in a candy scramble. A separate craft table and supplies was set up for children to do crafts on their own, said Butch Kline, consistory president.
The festival took place inside and outside the church behind Jacksonwald Elementary School. Children who showed up in a Halloween costume got a free hotdog.
There was something for all ages, especially homemade food that was offered for sale. Church volunteers were working in the kitchen as early as Thursday, making 300 apple fritters as well as pumpkin and apple pie.
“We had a crew in there, rolling out dough and cutting apples,” said Lori Border, a consistory member.

The festival ended shortly before 2 p.m., a little more than an hour earlier than planned, due to a forecast of rain.
Kline said last year’s fall festival was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns. He said congregation and community members were happy that it was back.
“The main purpose is to have a festival for the community,” he said.
