Hamburg falls to Boiling Springs in District 3 Class 3A semifinal
Hamburg allowed 35 unanswered points in falling to second-seeded Boiling Springs 35-7 in a District 3 Class 3A semifinal game Friday at Boiling Springs.
The third-seeded Hawks (7-4) took a 7-0 lead on a 42-yard run by Diohnny Ruiz in the second quarter.
The Bubblers (10-1) tied it on a 4-yard run by Aidan Metzger with 57 seconds left in the first half.
Boiling Springs took the lead for good on a 38-yard pass from Colin Lunde to Joey Menke with 10:07 left in the third quarter.
Metzger scored on a 12yard run to make it 21-7 after three quarters.
Following an interception by Jack Laing, Menke made it 28-7 with a rushing touchdown with 10:10 left.
Metzger capped the scoring on a 12-yard run after the Hawks had turned it over on downs.
Boiling Springs will face the winner of Saturday’s semifinal between top-seeded Wyomissing and fifth-seeded Middletown in the final next week.
Hamburg earned its first district win in program history last week when it beat Bermudian Springs 31-27.
