Title and tag agency opens in Bechtelsville
Drivers who live along the Route 100 corridor in eastern Berks County and need some documentation have a new place to go.
Rt. 100 Tags & Notary opened on May 28 and recently held its grand opening. Office Manager Melene Lutz was brought in by owner Rodney Christel to run the business, which is adjacent to Christel Car Care Inc. along Route 100 in Bechtelsville.
“I was a notary and tag agent for another business office,” said Lutz, who has 3½ years experience. “The owner of Christel Car Care, who I knew since I was young, asked me if I was interested in opening a business for him. That was back in October.”
Christel, who has been in business for 44 years, was looking for a one-stop shop for his car care customers.
The location, just north of Boyertown, gives customers, especially those who live in the townships to the north, a more convenient location. Lutz said some would have to go as far as the Lehigh Valley to get title and tag services.
“It’s a prime location,” Lutz said. “You had to go to Boyertown or Emmaus to get titles and tags.”
Sharing the building with the car care center is also a convenience.
“If someone goes in for an inspection and can’t find their registration, they are sent right over,” Lutz said.
The business opened in the spring when it received its first set of tags. However, five days later, Lutz had to leave for a medical emergency. She credited employees Gabriella Falzone and Ann Eddinger with keeping the office running.
“It was complicated with some bumps in the road,” Lutz said of the initial opening. “We were only open five days when I had a medical emergency and I was out for seven weeks. I have two women who are working for me and they took the reins. They called me if they had any questions and did a great job.”
