Since 1934 generations of families and individuals have been a part of “The Institute” and its education legacy. Initially housed in the first high school for the new community of Wyomissing as the Wyomissing Institute of Fine Arts, and now serving at an expanded stateof-the-art facility in Sinking Spring, the Yocum Institute is a critical anchor in our community. Tens of thousands of students have been nurtured in preschool, inspired through music and dance, explored the fine arts and developed confidence in theater programs.
Over the years, Yocum Institute has forged partnerships with schools and other non-profit organizations to increase access to the arts for both arts and non-arts outcomes. Primary Stages Productions, Yocum’s signature theater program for children’s productions and arts education, provide a variety of quality performances that are accessible to the young and entertaining to the entire family. Our productions employ professional and up-and-coming actors, directors, musicians, scenic designers, and costumers from all over the region.
Through school tours, onsite performances in our black box theater, and performances in libraries and other partnering venues, Primary Stages Productions have been enjoyed by thousands of audience members throughout Berks County and beyond.
The Yocum Institute today offers extensive classes in visual arts, theater, dance, martial arts, and music. We strive to continue to engage with our students and community members, staying true to our mission to connect and enrich our community through arts education, creative performance, and innovative programs.
