Alvernia men fall to Stevenson in triple OT
Alvernia had its chances before falling 93-89 in triple overtime Saturday to Stevenson in a MAC Commonwealth men’s basketball game at Stevenson, Md.
The Golden Wolves (11, 6-4), who led by seven at halftime, rallied from a 10-point deficit with 6:45 left to take a 61-57 lead with 1:48 left in regulation, but couldn’t close out the Mustangs (1-1, 7-2). Keon Taylor, who finished with a teamhigh 29 points, missed a jumper to win it just before the buzzer.
In the first OT, Alvernia tied it at 75-75 on a layup by Malik Green with six seconds left, then forced a turnover. Jacob Stoudt missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
In the second OT, both teams had chances to take the lead in the final 10 seconds.
Stevenson took the lead for good in the third OT at 86-84 on a layup by Khalil Richard with 2:27 left. The Mustangs then made 7-of-10 free throws to seal it.
Jakob Kelly scored 20 points for Alvernia. Green had 15.
Cameron Smith led Stevenson with 24 points. GALLAUDET 81, PENN STATE BERKS 78 (OT) » At Berks Campus, Corey Smith scored on a layup with 19 seconds left in overtime to lift the Bison (1-1, 1-6) over the Nittany Lions (0-2, 0-6) in the United East.
Gallaudet forced overtime on a 3-pointer by Rory Lewis with 14 seconds left in regulation after PSU Berks missed 2-of-4 free throws down the stretch.
Jeff Lorah led the Lions with 23 points. Jared Houck had 21 and Wilson grad Hassan Koroma and Josh Ruiz each 10.
Lewis scored 37 for Gallaudet and Smith had 22.

Derr had 31 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Golden Bears (1-1, 7-3) over the Griffins (1-1, 6-4) in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover game.
Casey Remolde had 11 points and eight rebounds for Kutztown.
ALBRIGHT 78, GWYNEDD MERCY 62 » At Gwynedd Valley, Gabby Boggs scored 25 points to lead five Lions (4-3) in double figures in the nonconference win over the Griffins (4-5).
Maggie O’Hare scored 16 points for Albright, while Berks Catholic grad Abby Gaffney, Amina Rauf and Kayana Chisholm each scored 10.
