Derr sets scoring mark for KU women

Rylee Derr scored 25 points, including a first-quarter 3-pointer that broke the school record for career points, as the Kutztown women beat Mercyhurst 73-68 in overtime Saturday in a Pennsylvan­ia State Athletic Conference crossover game at Keystone Arena.

The Golden Bears (8-1, 15-3) extended their winning streak to nine games, one off the school record, and strengthen­ed their hold on first place in the PSAC East.

Derr, a 5-10 senior from Lititz, drained a 3 with 4:45 left in the first quarter to pass Melissa McQuade, who scored 1,623 points from 2007-11 and who attended the game.

Derr, who now has 1,643 points, made 3-of-4 free throws in the final seconds of overtime to seal the victory.

Mercyhurst’s Jayde Boyd, who had 16 points, sent the game to overtime by converting a threepoint play with seven seconds to go in regulation. The Lakers (4-4 PSAC West, 6-8) trailed 5037 after three quarters before outsourcin­g Kutztown 22-9 in the fourth quarter.

Abbey Hearn had 13 points for the Bears and Casey Remolde had 11 points, a career-high 15 rebounds, four blocked shots and two steals.

ALVERNIA 62, HOOD 57 » At Frederick, Md., Kayla Williams scored 13 points, including a go-ahead layup with 7:35 left, as the Golden Wolves (2-4, 8-6) held off the Blazers (2-5, 5-9) in a MAC Commonweal­th game.

Jordan Karmonick had 12 points and seven rebounds for Alvernia and Cathryn Kramer had 11 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots.

Niki Etchison had 14 points for Hood.

STEVENSON 57, ALBRIGHT 55 » At Bollman Center, Olivia Coleman had 19 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Mustangs (3-5, 5-9) past the Lions (3-4, 8-5) in a MAC Commonweal­th game.

With the score 51-51, Aysia Ferguson made a 3-pointer that gave Stevenson the lead for good. Denia Campbell drained another 3 with 21 seconds left to seal it.

Gabby Boggs had 22 points, 11 rebounds and two blocked shots for Albright. Also for the Lions, Amina Rauf had nine points, Berks Catholic product Abby Gaffney had eight and Brady Wassel had 11 rebounds.

LANCASTER BIBLE 90, PENN STATE BERKS 19 » At Lancaster, Jenna Dombach had 17 points to help the Chargers (4-1, 7-7) defeat the Nittany Lions (0-4, 0-11) in a United East game.

MERCYHURST 79, KUTZTOWN 71

» At Keystone Arena, Aidan Reichert made a layup with 3:39 left to give the seventh-ranked Lakers (8-2 PSAC West, 14-2) the lead for good against the Golden Bears (1-6 PSAC East, 4-9) in a PSAC crossover game.

Kutztown took a 54-41 lead on Robert Tucker’s basket with 10:34 left before Mercyhurst outscored the Bears 38-17 the rest of the way. Reichert had 21 points and seven rebounds for the Lakers.

For Kutztown, Jalen Bryant scored 23 points, Michael Smith III had 17 points and three steals, Tucker had 11 points and Channick Nkoma had 10 points. ALBRIGHT 81, STEVENSON 64 » At Bollman Center, Troy Smoot had 20 points, 10 rebounds and six assists to lead the Lions (3-4, 7-8) past the Mustangs (3-4, 8-6) in a MAC Commonweal­th game.

Deion Booker scored a careerhigh 18 points for Albright, which outscored Stevenson 44-28 in the second half after holding a 37-36 lead at the break.

Sidney Brown had 15 points for the Lions. Khalil Richard had 17 for the Mustangs.
