Nationally recognized musicians perform at Calvary and Pennsburg UCC worship services in April

Two musicians, Ron Stabinsky and Craig Kenney, will join Calvary UCC of Barto and Pennsburg UCC of Pennsburg at worship services on Sundays, April 3, 10, 17 and 24.

Both players have performed at nationally recognized music festivals, have recorded, and are in high demand as colleagues in jazz bands, combos, teaching, and playing in a variety of settings in Pennsylvan­ia, New York City, the Poconos, and at other venues.

Stabinsky has played and recorded with the Dave Stahl Sacred Orchestra, subbed on the Dave Stahl big band, and played at the Newport Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherland­s, and the Moers Festival (Germany). He has been a part of the groups “Mostly Other People Do the Killing”, Relache, the Charles Evans Quartet, and the Peter Evans Quartet.

In addition, Stabinsky has participat­ed in the Edna Golensky Institute in New York City and Princeton, NJ. His unique improvisat­ional style on keyboard and synthesize­r is appreciate­d by many musicians. In the Jazz review magazine “All About Jazz,” he received critical acclaim for his recording “Free for One” from the jazz beat writer Budd Copman.

Stabinsky will play at Pennsburg UCC on April 3 and 17, and Calvary UCC on Palm Sunday, April 10.

Craig Kenney, trumpet

Kenney managed and played lead trumpet for the

Dave Stahl Big Band for 23 years. He has recorded 7 albums and also played in the Berks Jazz Fest on numerous occasions.

His repertoire ranges from classical to jazz, to sacred, to playing at festivals and with numerous jazz artists, instrument­alists, and singers such as Dave Stahl, Wynton Marsalis, Wayne Newton, the Gene Krupa Orchestra, Patti Austin, Marie Osmond, the Benny

Goodman Orchestra, Bobby Caldwell, Phil Woods, and the Andrew Neu Orchestra, just to name a few.

Kenney and drummer Lew Leabman have teamed up to create the new big band “The Leabman-Kenney Jazz Orchestra.”

Kenney will be playing at Calvary UCC on April 24.
