Indian’s Maize was one of the new food cultivars that the Germanic immigrants found here. For man and livestock, corn soon became an essential crop.

21st annual Safe Berks Silent Witness March: 11a.m. at Safe Berks, 255Chestnut St., Reading. Silent march 11:15to 11:45a.m. to Reading Area Community College’s Schmidt Training & Technology Center. Dedication noon followed by lunch. Berks victims of domestic violence homicide remembered for Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
