- By MediaNews Group

SCORE TriCounty will host a unique business and networking event for women on May 5 — the organization’s first in-person women’s business conference since the pandemic.

The women’s business event, “Women Playing to Win: Messaging, Mindset, Money,” will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Copperfield Inn at Lakeside, 594 W. Ridge Pike, Limerick.

Keynote speaker for the event is Ellen Leikind, founder and CEO of PokerDivas, a business that teaches women how to win in life and business using poker strategies.

“SCORE is committed to empowering women entrepreneurs by providing expertise, education and encouragement. This event with messaging, mindset and money strategies is an opportunity to learn, connect and have fun too,” Donna Botti, SCORE member and event organizer, said in a statement. “No poker experience is necessary.”

Teaching the strategies of No Limit Texas Hold ‘Em — and how the concepts of the game apply to the business world — is where Leikind comes in, according to a press release about the event.

“The key component is getting into that play-to-win mode and not being shy or embarrassed or afraid to promote your value and get what you’re worth,” Leikind said in a statement. “Are you playing to win or are you playing not to lose? Are you thriving or just surviving?”

Some of the takeaways from the event, according to the release, include learning how to negotiate for yourself, understanding the motivation and personality types of those who work for and with you, as well as managing difficult people.

Leikind added that the goal is to build confidence, “learning to read people, becoming a better negotiator and being assertive and bold when it really counts.”

The event will also feature a panel discussion on how the right messaging and mindset will help individuals achieve business, financial and personal success. Panelists include Botti, of web design and digital marketing company, Delos Inc.; Adrean Turner, a personal, professional and leadership development coach and speaker; and MarySheila McDonald, director of The John F. Scarpa Center for Entrepreneurship and Law at Villanova University’s Charles Widger School of Law.

Representatives of SCORE TriCounty will share insight about the nocost mentoring resources available to entrepreneurs and business owners. The event will also feature net
