Four Berks football players earned All-State honors from the Pennsylvania Football Writers on teams.

In Class 6A, Wilson quarterback Tommy Hunsicker was voted to the team as an athlete on offense.

In Class 5A, Exeter’s Jayden Zandier was selected at running back.

In Class 4A, Twin Valley made history with two picks in tight end Ean Winchester and offensive guard

Paul McClune.

Three Berks players were selected to the Class 3A team: Wyomissing linebacker Ryker Jones and defensive lineman Caleb Brewer and Hamburg tight end Mason Semmel.

Hunsicker, the Berks Player of the Year and a 6-2, 185-pound senior, led the Bulldogs in passing and rushing, helping them finish 7-4 and qualify for the District 3 playoffs.

He completed 156-of-241 passes (64.7%) for 2,230 yards and 24 touchdowns with four interceptions. He ran for 509 yards and eight TDs on 130 carries.

Zandier, a 6-1, 165-pound junior, began the 2023 season as a wide receiver before moving to running back in the third game.

He finished with 1,328 yards, second in Section 2 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League, and 15 touchdowns on 127 carries.

Zandier also finished with seven catches for 163 yards and three touchdowns, and returned 13 kicks for 371 yards, including a 79-yard touchdown.

He was the Offensive Back of the Year on the All-Berks team, which is selected by the county’s coaches, after helping the Eagles go 8-3 and qualify for the District 3 playoffs.

Winchester and McClune give Twin Valley two AllState selections in the same season for the first time. The Raiders (10-2), who shared the Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 3 title, set a school record for wins in a season and hosted a District 3 semifinal for the first time.

Winchester, a 6-2, 265-pound senior, was a key part of a high-powered rushing offense as a blocker. He also had 18 catches for 187 yards and carried the ball 30 times for 201 yards and 11 touchdowns.

McClune, a 6-4, 295-pound senior, helped the Raiders average 312 rushing yards and 400.5 total yards per game, which led L-L Section 3. He has committed to Navy.

Jones, who will play at Princeton next season, was the Linebacker of the Year in Berks and in Section 4 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League. He finished with 48 tackles, five sacks, three quarterback pressures and a fumble recovery for the top defense in Section 4.

Brewer, a 6-5, 275-pound senior who will play at Penn State next fall, played nose guard on defense. He had 53 tackles, three sacks and three passes defensed.

Semmel, a 6-3, 220-pound senior, caught a school single-season record 43 passes for 884 yards and 12 touchdowns for the Hawks.
