Behind a strong defensive performance, Oley Valley bounced back from their first loss of the season with a dominant win over Schuylkill Valley.

The Lynx defeated the Panthers 52-32 in a non-league girls basketball game on Tuesday night at Leesport to earn their ninth victory of the season.

“(It) felt good (and) I think it was good for the girls,” Oley Valley coach Kerry Snyder said. “They got off to a hot start and we were a little slow last game kind of getting our engine moving. So they came out and were on and that set the tone for the rest of the game.”

In particular, Lynx senior Ryanne

Wheeler had her shots dropping early in the first quarter. She knocked down two 3-pointers along with two baskets in the paint to lead all scorers with 10 points after one quarter. She finished with a season-high 15 points.

“It felt great,” Wheeler said about the quick start. “Obviously, I wouldn’t have that without my team, without them getting me the ball or having confidence in me to have that shot.”

Schuylkill Valley’s Julianna Stichter converted the first points of the second quarter, cutting the Lynx’ lead to 17-10. That is when Oley Valley (9-1) turned up its defensive pressure, allowing just two more points to lead 28-12 at the half.

The Lynx increased their lead to 22 points in the third quarter. While trailing late in the fourth, Schuylkill Valley’s Caitlyn Reali hit three consecutive 3-pointers, but there was not enough for the Panthers (7-5) to make a comeback.

“We feel good, but we know it’s a battle,” Snyder said. “I mean, we haven’t won anything yet… We’re on to the next, whatever the next game is. That’s our goal.”

For the Lynx, Isabella Buehler had 12 points. For the Panthers, Reali had 11 points and Elyssa Sellers had 10.

“I’m super confident,” Wheeler said. “This one is definitely a chip on our shoulder with kind of a rivalry between us. Definitely a motivational thing to keep going forward.”
