Youth rally for mental health education

A youth rally was held in Muhlenberg Township to educate and unify the public on mental health issues.
The Youth Volunteer Corps of Reading’s youth mental health ambassadors and Muhlenberg High School’s Aevidum Club teamed up to host the event April 8 at the high school.
The rally, which brought together more than 100 Berks students, was titled “Building Unity in our Community” and was a testament to the power of youth-driven initiatives in addressing critical issues like mental health, organizers said in a release.
The day was dedicated to fostering awareness and understanding, as well as equipping attendees with healthy coping mechanisms, officials said. Led entirely by youth, it aimed to create a supportive environment where young individuals could learn, grow and support each other.
Participants received education on mental health topics and learned valuable coping skills through engaging activities and interactive sessions, officials said.
One of the highlights of the event was the hands-on coping skills stations, where participants had the opportunity to explore different techniques for managing stress and improving their overall well-being. From mindfulness exercises to creative outlets, the stations provided practical tools that attendees could incorporate into their daily lives, officials said.
There was also a student-led panel discussion during which youth mental health ambassadors and Aevidum members shared their perspectives and experiences.
The rally showed the dedication and passion of young individuals in championing mental health initiatives and will help to drive positive changes, officials said.
