Early voting begins first week of July

-

Early voting began Monday and continues weekdays until the runoff election for two seats in Polk County is held on July 22.

Voters will be able to get to the polls early at the Polk County Administration Building, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the elections office.

Elections director Karen Garmon said Rockmart voters will get their own polling place at the Nathan Dean Center the week of July 14 through 18. The polls will be open in Rockmart that week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. as well.

Polls will be closed on Friday, July 4, for the celebration of Independence Day. They will re-open on the following Monday.

The runoff election will see two judicial candidates going up against one another for the Tallapoosa Circuit Superior Court Judge seat being vacated by Judge Richard Sutton when he retires at the end of this year.

Haralson County attorney Meng Lim and Cedartown attorney and juvenile court judge Chuck Morris both finished with the most number of votes during the May 20 primary, but neither gained a clear majority. Haraslon voters will also be helping to decide on the issue.

Statewide, Republican voters will get to decide between Congressman Jack Kingston and busi- nessman David Perdue to see who will face off against democratic U.S. Senate candidate Michelle Nunn in November.

Kingston and Perdue beat out a crowded field of republicans in the race in late May, including former congressman for Polk County, Phil Gingrey, and former gubernatorial candidate Karen Handel.
