Mr. Arp

Mr. Glenn Wal­ter Arp, age 74, of Aragon, passed away Fri­day, June 20, 2014 in a Rome med­i­cal cen­ter.

Mr. Arp was born in Bar­tow County, on Aug. 4, 1939, a son of the late Ray­mond Arp and Ramie Irene Sor­rells Arp, and other than the time he was in the mil­i­tary, had lived most of his life in Polk County.

Hav­ing been awarded a Bronze Star, Mr. Arp was a re­tired Mas­ter Sergeant of the U. S. Army, hav­ing spent 20 years in ser­vice to his coun­try. He went on to serve the Polk County Po­lice Depart­ment an­other 15 years. He was an avid run­ner which started in his mil­i­tary ca­reer. Mr. Arp was of the Chris­tian faith. In ad­di­tion to his par­ents, he was pre­ceded in death by a sis­ter, Linda Buchanan.

Sur­vivors in­clude his wife, Jean Arp, of Aragon to whom he was mar­ried on Dec. 24, 1963; daugh­ter Sonya Sin­gle­ton and her hus­band Doug, Cedar­town; son, Greg Arp and his wife Lori, Hi­ram; eleven grand­chil­dren; one great grand­son; two broth­ers: Johnny Arp, Aragon and Ray Arp, Pauld­ing County; two sis­ters: Vir­ginia Buchanan, Rock­mart and Kathy Red­den, Aragon; a num­ber of nieces and neph­ews also sur­vive.

Fu­neral ser­vices were held Mon­day, June 23, 2014 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of the Alvis Miller and Son Fu­neral Home with Bro. Doug Sin­gle­ton, Jr. of­fi­ci­at­ing.

In­ter­ment fol­lowed in the Aragon Ceme­tery with Bro. Ti­mothy Davis of­fi­ci­at­ing. Full mil­i­tary hon­ors were pro­vided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard.

Pall­bear­ers in­cluded: Andrew Wil­liams, Chris Wal­lace, Der­rick Van­der­voot, Ja­son Davis, Ti­mothy Davis and Eron Smart. Hon­orary pall­bear­ers in­cluded: Doug Sin­gle­ton, Sr., Delmer Ray­burn, Doug Ray­burn and Michael Mar­cellini.

The Alvis Miller and Son Fu­neral Home was in charge of ar­range­ments.
