Work on Coca-cola museum moving into second phase with roof work completed
One local couple who are looking to open a museum in a historic downtown Cedartown building are one step closer to that goal, but plenty of work remains to be completed.
According to Jamie Morris, who along with his wife Darcy are looking to open a Coca-Cola memorabilia museum in the Coca-Cola building on Main Street, the first phase of work on the building is now complete.
Morris said construction work on a new roof from the structure was vital to ensuring the building was safe for the public.
“It was probably the biggest part of the project thus far,” Morris said. “I’m glad to get that completed and stopped the bleeding and water coming into the property.”
He said the next phase of the project, a revamp of the façade for the Coca-Cola building, will likely start sometime this fall. Morris said the facelift to the front of the building will look to retain the original appearance of what it would have looked like when first opened, but also gain some more modern appeal.
Morris said plans for the upgraded storefront will include the entire Coca-Cola building structure, and not just the part the museum will take over once work is completed inside and out.
“At one time, the building was a single structure all the way down the block, and we want to try and maintain the integrity,” he said.
A name for the museum still hasn’t been completely firmed up, but the likely candidate for the moment is the Cedartown Museum of Coca-Cola Memorabilia.
Months ago when the plan was announced, the couple formed a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization for the museum’s funding and operations.
More information on what the Morris’ have planned for the museum will be forthcoming as they move forward on renovations, Morris said.
