Mr. Fred O. Searcy, age 73 of Aragon, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2014.

Mr. Searcy was born on March 9, 1941 in Chattanoog­a, Tenn., son of the late Cornelius Searcy and the late Edna Mabel Cantrell Searcy. He was a graduate of West Fulton High School and a veteran of the United States Coast Guard.

Mr. Searcy was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of Rockmart. He retired from the Sears and Roebuck Company of Atlanta with twenty years of service and a retired bus driver for Tallatoona.

He was an umpire for many years for the Paulding County Recreation­al Department, loved all sports and was an avid Georgia Tech fan. Mr. Searcy was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Jerry Searcy.

Survivors included his wife, Nancy O’Shields Searcy of Aragon; two daughters, Beth Searcy Frye and her husband Sam of Holly Springs and Jeannie O’Shields Rains of Dallas; two sons, Steve Searcy and his wife Debbie of Cobb County and Benjamin O’Shields of Aragon; brother, Jim Searcy of Cobb County; eight grandchild­ren and one great-grandchild also survived.

Funeral services for Mr. Searcy were held on Sunday, July 20 in the chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with Chaplain George Nix officiatin­g.

A eulogy was given by Mr. Jeff Searcy. Interment services followed in the family lot of the Aragon Cemetery. The US flag presentati­on was provided by the Brown-Wright American Legion Post #12 Honor Guard.

Pallbearer­s were fellow umpires: Mark Young, Tony Cochran, Jimmy Miller, Robert Lee, Leon Cook and Stan Seals.
