Crossview to host ‘Love Loud’ celebration
Love Loud, a back to school celebration, will kick off at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at Crossview Community Church, North Piedmont Avenue in Rockmart.
The church will be offering free school supplies, clothing, free haircuts and a free movie, “God’s Not Dead”.
In 2013, more than 300 individuals received school supplies, haircuts and tennis shoes during the event. A line of people could be seen even before the doors opened.
Additionally, food was served to staff at the Meggitt plant, located near the church, and to faculty and staff at Eastside, Van Wert, Rockmart middle and high schools.
This year, church volunteers plan to reach out to residents in the community on Sunday, Aug. 10. They will join in a day of service by completing local projects. These will include yard work, light home repairs not requiring a licensed professional and painting. Individuals are invited to submit a project by calling 770-6844070.
“Love is more than a word, it is a way of life,” said Crossview Pastor Danny Echols. “Love Loud is our opportunity to live this out for friends and neighbors. Our prayer is this will be our way of life.
“It is a fun way to celebrate the end of summer and help families prepare for back to school,” Echols said. “We invite everyone to join us.”
In previous years, volunteers from Crossview Church participated in Community Makeover. They would take part in several days of helping repair homes, cutting grass or other needed chores for local people.
Later, that event was moved from July to October. Therefore, leaders in the church decided to do something different prior to the first day of school.
Jessica Queen and other staff at Crossview will be involved the activities. This group includes Danny Echols, Tabby Kirby, Justin Brewer, Regina Moroy, Chris Womack, Kayla Moroy, Marsha Leek, Blake Ferguson, Daphne Harrell, Stuart Briscar and Josh Kirby.
Proceeds from the Homespun 5K run, sponsored by the church, are used for the Love Loud event, according to Pastor Echols.
