Churches support efforts to feed kids during summer
ChurchesintheRockmart area combined efforts with Polk School District to feed local children during the summer.
The school cafeteria staff workers prepared lunches and package them for distribution. Volunteers arrived to pick up the lunches, take them to designated locations and distribute them to children ages 1-18, regardless of income.
This year, the program began the first week of June and will end the July 31.
Several new locations and creative methods for delivering the lunches were offered this year. The Northwest Georgia Housing Authority partnered with the churches to provide convenient locations for reaching more children.
Not only did they allow volunteers to use their grounds and facilities, the staff made the locations comfortable and accessible.
Rockmart and Aragon both offered a fixed location for the lunches and a bus was also added this year. The bus visited four different locations where they distributed the lunches.
Organizers said there is too many other volunteers to mention but thanks have been extended to all who helped make this program successful.
