Fun events celebrate anniversary at Tallatoona sites in Cedartown
Tallatoona is celebrating an anniversary.
The organization was begun in 1967 after the Equal Opportunity Act of 1964 was formed. Tallatoona Head Start at Cedartown has two locations.
Classrooms for 3 and 4 year old children are located at 201 Prior Station Road and a Pre-K class at 229 Houseal Street.
Staff members are: 3 year old class, Diane Lackey (15 years) and Tia Brown; 3 Year old class, Rita Mabry (20 years) and Charles Bailey (13 years); 4 year old class, Collette Nale (15 years) and Tammy Parks,
The 4 year old class includes the following staff members: Dawn Sullivan and Brittany Smith; Pre-K, Keri Nall, Denitra Clark and Yolanda Maxwell.
Lisa Pledger is manager and Tomeika Johnson, assistant. Family advocates are Debra Murfree and Vernoica Chappele. Kitchen staff includes Pat Oswalt and Remonda White (20 years). The custodian is Norval Knight.
Tallatoona Head Start uses the Creative Curriculum to teach children and is based on their interests.
Local sites observed the 50th anniversary from Oct. 27 – 31 with different activities each day. Monday was crazy sock day; Tuesday, hat day; Wednesday, camouflage; Thursday, tacky and Friday, sports and book characters. A fall festival was held on Friday, Oct. 31.
A pumpkin judging contest was held. Each classroom made a pumpkin from a book character and displayed them for the parents to judge.
The Houseal Street has openings in Pre-K.
