Happy House draws crowd to see ‘Walk Through Bible’

- By AGNES HAGIN

Sounds of laughter could be heard as characters dressed in robes and wings gathered for the first “Happy House . . . Children’s Walk Through the Bible” at Polk/ Haralson Christian Life Center “Camp Antioch”.

Prior to guided public visits, volunteers were busy as bees at a honey tree as they set up scenes designed to help children visualize favorite Bible stories.

Churches participating in the event were: Morning View, Collard Valley, Friendly, Pine Bower, Shiloh and Wimberly Hill. Other groups included the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Boy Scouts.

Participants presented the following stories: The Creation, Noah’s Ark, Jonah and the Whale, Baby Moses in the Basket, Moses Crosses the Red Sea, David and Goliath, Hebrew Children in the Fiery Furnace, Jesus Calms the Storm, Jesus on the Cross and The Empty Tomb.

One of the first groups visitors met was several several angels. They gathered at a table to help create a design for the entry from Collard Valley Baptist.

Included in this group were Gracie Benefield, Will Benefield, Karen Dingler, Andrea Warner and Aspen Warner.

Laughter erupted from a separate room where participants and volunteers from Pine Bower Baptist gathered. This busy group included Jason Winkles, Rachael Rush, Abigail Kiser, Kayti Hulsey, Savannah Covey and Katie James.

One of the displays that caught the attention of visitors was that of Jesus, which quickly became a favored place for a photo. Among those who smiled for the camera were Will Benefield and Jayby Alvarado.

Zander Haywood, son of Heather and Jamie Haywood, was also posed for a picture as people admired this cute, smiling baby.

“I did not expect such a large crowd,” said Janice Stewart, who coordinated the event.

She reminded parents to mark calendars for “Cupcakes and Carols” that will be presented from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7 at the camp. It will be similar to one held in 2013 when children decorated cupcakes, learned about missionaries, performed and sang Christmas carols.
