Construction on a new expansion at Winthrop at Polk Senior Living in Cedartown should be completed in late February 2015.

Charles Williams Real Estate Investment Corporation recently announced plans for the building program, which will add 20 additional apartments to its existing facility at 131 Melissa Lane.

The additional rooms will be called Memory Lane at Winthrop devoted to residents living with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. The existing facility will continue to operate as a senior living community to provide independent living and supportive care.

President and CEO Charlie Williams said, “We are looking forward to providing the most advanced level of memory care in Northwest Georgia. Memory Lane will feature state- ofthe-art design and most advanced memory care available in the senior care industry.”

The new expansion will feature an individual approach to each resident’s special care needs in an atmosphere that reflects local generational themes. The Memory Lane care team will focus on the newest advances of individual care that matches abilities and interests with activities and life skills of each resident.

Contractor Ryan Murphy, Murphy Construction of Rome, said work on the new structure was begun following a groundbreaking during spring of 2014.

“We have completed the interior drywall,” he said. “One of the features of this project will be an entrance off Sheila Drive. There will also be additional parking at this new portion of the existing facility.”

Eric Shaw, Winthorp Senior Living Community Relations, Cedartown, said the structure would feature retro decorations, including photos of historic sites in Polk County.

He said these would be places residents remember such as the old mill south of Cedartown. Shaw said he is participating in the effort to assure that these scenes will add to the nostalgic feeling of home.
