Shorter group competes in NATS event
Shorter University continued its tradition of excellence during this year’s annual Georgia National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) student auditions at Georgia State University in Atlanta. Six students placed in the competition, which was judged by voice professionals from throughout Georgia.
Students who placed are: Mary Saintfort, of Smyrna, Ga. (first place in first-year college women, classical); Jacob Case, of Trenton, Ga. (first place in second-year college men, classical); Katelyn Johnson, of College Park, Ga. (first place in thirdyear college women, classical); Jordan Heath, of Donalsonville, Ga. (second place, lower-level musical theatre men); Sarah Stratton, of Dallas, Ga. (third place lower-level musical theatre women); and Kaitlin Kennedy, of Missouri City, Texas (third place upper-level musical theatre women).
The students competed against approximately 400 singers from around the state during the two-day competition. Those who placed were awarded cash prizes.
Dr. Deborah Popham, assistant professor of music at Shorter University, said students represented the university well.
“Shorter has had a longstanding tradition of winners at NATS, and even those who didn’t place received excellent comments and high marks from the adjudicators,” she said. “I am very proud of our students.”
Founded in 1873, Shorter University is committed to excellence in education.
