Performance benefits Rockmart and Aragon ‘Transition House’

-

About four years ago, concern for homeless children and their families in the Rockmart and Aragon community led to the founding of the Rockmart and Aragon Transitional House.

The House provides a stable environment for one family during the 1824 month transition from homelessness to self support.

During that time funding and community support were provided by local churches and individuals while counseling and education in family budgeting and other life skills are provided by Action Ministries.

From the beginning the emphasis has been to keep families together.

“We visited homeless shelters in Polk county and Bartow county. We saw shelters for men or for women. We saw larger facilities that could house both, but that was too large a project to start with,” said Sylvia Pound.

“While some of the local ministers were visiting a homeless community here in Rockmart, one of them suggested we contact Action Ministries. Action Ministries was invited to present their program to a group of church leaders and others in the community. Our partnership with them made the House possible.”

The Rockmart/Aragon Transitional House Steering Committee provides oversight of the House. It is responsible for raising the money necessary to fund the it each year.

A benefit fundraiser will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014 at Rockmart Presbyterian Church.

The benefit performance is Sanders Family Christmas. The Sanders Family will present Smoke on the Mountain Part II. Advance tickets are available for $5.00.

Patrons and corporate sponsors are encouraged for the Rockmart/Aragon Transitional House.
