Peek Park gets repairs before festival

- By TRICIA CAMBRON Assistant Editor

The City of Cedartown is making improvements and repairs to the playground at Peek Park ahead of the Cedar Valley Arts Festival later in the month.

At its April 6 work session, the city commissioner heard reports from Lee Hayes, head of the Parks and Recreation Department, on repairs underway at Peek Park.

Hayes reported that his department removed the swings from the park after discovering that the supporting posts were deteriorating and causing the swings to be unsafe.

Several posts around the perimeter of the park are also being replaced as they were rotted below the mulch line.

Hayes said the labor intensive undertaking should be completed in time for the Cedar Valley Arts Festival at the end of the month.

The commission has also received complaints regarding vandalism as well as reports of misbehavior in the park.

The matter was turned over to the Cedartown Police Department.

Commission chair Dale Tuck asked the public to report any safety or security issues they see in the park.

“Our city is blessed with public parks, and the commission places park safety and enjoyment as a top priority. We will do what is necessary to keep them clean, safe and secure, but we also need the continued help of our citizens. If something is not as it should be, please report it,” she said.

For safety concerns, call the Parks and Recreation Department at (770) 7487783. For security concerns, call the Cedartown Police Department 911.
