Ward elected as County Commission Vice Chair

- By KEVIN MYRICK Editor

Following a vote during April’s monthly meeting, the Polk County Commission now has a full board in place, and a vice chair to fill in when the chair is unavailable

Jason Ward, who served as the commission’s chair in 2013, was approved unanimously by the board to fill the vice chair position left vacant when chair Stefanie Drake Burford moved up to her newest role as head

role as head of the board.

Ward was the only commissioner nominated for the job by the board during the April 7 session.

“I certainly appreciate the board’s support as vice chair,” he said. “I’m here to support Stefanie and she’s doing a great job of getting us together on everything we’re working on.”

Ward said his first order of business has been helping to bring the board together for a retreat in early May before getting into fiscal year 2016 budget discussions.

“It will be good for us to get together and work on making Polk County a better place,” he said. “We first need to figure out the primary areas where we need to be focusing our efforts on. We’ll be asking ourselves and putting together what those three to four projects are that we can go after and get done.”

Ward was re-elected to office in 2014 after first winning a bid to represent Polk County residents in 2010. He will serve as vice chair for the rest of this year, and will have a chance for re-appointment in 2016.
