The farmers market will begin its 2015 season by opening in downtown Rockmart on Thursday, May 7.

While farmers have been busy with spring planting, organizers of the Rockmart Farmers Market (RFM) continue to prepare for opening day on Thursday, May 7.

And, there are several ways for the community to get involved to achieve the 2015 goal of making this season even better than 2014.

If you are a farmer, local food producer, or just plan to have a few veggies left from your own garden consider becoming a vendor. The vendor application is available online at RockmartFarmersMarket.com.

If you are interested in learning more about the market or even volunteering for the 2015 season, meet up with the Rockmart Farmers Market between 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2015 for a Volunteer Open House at Rockmart Public Library. More information is available on the website regarding specific volunteer needs and details on the open house.

If you can’t make the open house, you can contact organizers via email or by phone: RockmartFarmersMarket@ gmail.com or 404-436-1818.

Established in 2008, RFM has grown into a diverse and vibrant market offering a wide variety and abundant mix of fresh, locally grown produce to local and area residents. This includes seasonal fruits and vegetables along with eggs, honey, bread, jams, jellies and more.

The market is a non-profit with the mission of increasing the health of the community by increasing access to locally produced food.

“We are also working hard to share information regarding nutrition, food preservation and preparation, while continuing to enhance the capacity of local farmers,” said Shonna Kirkpatrick, manager. “Accomplishing our mission helps all of us become part of a stronger, more sustainable community. However, we can’t do it alone. We need your help to reach these goals.”

She said the Rockmart Farmers Market would continue its partnership with Wholesome Wave Georgia and continue to accept SNAP (double ever dollar spent up to $50).
