Wilkins recognized as Good Samaritan Volunteer at Floyd
Sondra Wilkins, a volunteer with the Floyd Medical Center Auxiliary for 42 years, was named the Good Samaritan Volunteer of the Year Friday.
The award was presented at Floyd’s annual volunteer appreciation luncheon at Berry College’s Krannert Center as part of Floyd’s commemoration of April as National Volunteer Appreciation Month.
The luncheon honors the more than 200 volunteers who serve at Floyd Medical Center and Polk Medical Center. Volunteers are recognized for their dedication and contribution to the American Red Cross at Floyd, Floyd Medical Center Auxiliary, First Steps, Heyman Hospice Care, Floyd Healthcare Foundation, Floyd Medical Explorers, Arts in Medicine and Support Services.
Wilkins manages the Hole in the Wall thrift shop at Floyd. She has also served in the hospital gift shop, helped coordinate the annual Love Light Tree fundraiser, pushed the nutrition cart to patient rooms and helped with monthly childbirth classes, along with a variety of other volunteer duties through- out her four decades of service.
“I like helping people and making a difference,” Wilkins said. “I learned from my parents and grandparents, who generously gave of their time. We have a lot of blessings and it’s an honor to be able to share those blessings with others.”
Wilkins’ service is not limited to Floyd. She also volunteers with the Spade and Trowel Garden Club, the Rome Federation of Garden Clubs, Quota Club International and First United Methodist Church.
Kurt Stuenkel, Floyd President and CEO, says it is an honor to recognize Floyd’s volunteers for the many hours of service they provide.
“We just can’t say enough about how much the volunteers mean to our organization,” Stuenkel said. “The work they do is immensely important and helps us continue to provide the excellent quality of care Floyd has become known for.”
