New four way stop at Elm, West Second Streets
At the March 19th City Council meeting a proposal to place a 4-way stop at the intersection of Elm and W Second Street was approved by the City Council.
It was pointed out by both Public Works and the Police Department that this is a hazardous intersection, and from a safety standpoint needed improvement.
Drivers are cautioned to be aware and careful of a change in traffic flow.
I’ve had recent inquiries from some citizens about what services the City provides. Under the Georgia Constitution, Article IX. Counties and Municipal Corporations, Paragraph III. Supplementary powers, it says: A Municipality may exercise the following services: An active municipality in Georgia must provide at least three of the following services, either directly or by contract: I have put the services Aragon does not provide in bold type: (1) Police and fire protection (2) Garbage and solid waste collection and disposal.
(3) Public health facilities and services, including hospitals, ambulance and emergency rescue services and animal control.
(4) Street and road construction, maintenance, including curbs, sidewalks, street lights, and devices to control the flow of traffic on streets and roads constructed by counties and municipalities or any combination thereof.
(5) Parks, recreational areas, programs, and facilities.
(6) Storm water and sewage collection and disposal systems. (Sewage disposal provided by Polk County).
(7) Development, storage, treatment, purification, and purification of water. (8) Public housing. (9) Public transportation. (10) Libraries, archives, and arts and sciences programs and facilities.
(11) Terminal and dock facilities and parking facilities.
(12) Planning and Zoning, Code Enforcement, including building, housing, plumbing, and electrical codes. (13) Air quality control. Georgia has 536 cities, the total number of Georgians living in cities: 3,481,184 (38.9% of Georgia’s population)?
