Shorter Hawks to play in back-to-back GSC games of the week this season

- From Staff Reports

The Gulf South Conference officially announced the lineup for the 11th season of its GSC Football Game of the Week today, one that will see the Shorter Hawks play in front of the ESPN3 cameras in two consecutive weeks.

Shorter’s first GSC Game of the Week appearance will be on Saturday, Oct. 17 when the Hawks head to Livingston, Ala., for a conference showdown with West Alabama for a 3 p.m. kickoff.

Five days later, head coach Phil Jones and his team are once again in the spotlight when Shorter returns home to Barron Stadium on Oct. 22 for a Thursday night GSC clash against Valdosta State starting at 7:30 p.m.

ESPN3 became the exclusive carrier of GSC-TV last year and the package’s success resulted in a two-year extension starting in 2015.

“The Gulf South Conference fields the top teams in NCAA Division II and it makes sense for us to work with ESPN to showcase these institutions and student-athletes on its live multiscreen network, ESPN3,” said GSC Commissioner Matt Wilson. “We are excited about the games featured on the slate. Every week presents intriguing storylines and high-caliber match-ups.”

The GSC Football Game of the Week will bring 10 games to ESPN3, including nine Saturday contests and one Thursday night clash. All eight Conference squads are featured at least twice.
