Bates named Downtown Events Coordinator for Rockmart
Laura Bates of Cedartown has accepted a new position with the City of Rockmart, according to Mayor Steve Miller. Jeff Ellis, city manager, said more than 20 applications were received and an interview process was held to narrow the list. He is pleased that so many qualified individuals responded to the job opening.
However, Ellis said city officials felt that Bates was the best fit for the job as “Downtown Events Coordinator.” Her office will be located in the theatre building at 116 East Elm St.
Stacy Smith, director, said she would be a welcomed addition to Rockmart’s Department of Community Development.
“We look forward to working with Laura,” she said. “There is plenty of work that will showcase her expertise.”
This includes a project – Riverwalk Festival on Euharlee - which has the support of city officials. This new event, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17, will replace the annual National Night Out program. It will showcase arts and crafts and promote use of J. L. Lester and Seaborn Jones parks, which border the stream.
Bates is well known in Rockmart and Cedartown since she was affiliated with the Polk County Chamber of Commerce from Jan. 17, 2005 through March 3, 2015. While there, she filled the position of Director of Member Services.
Prior to that time, Bates was Business Office Manager with Coosa Valley Home
