- From Staff Reports

Starting next Tuesday, Polk County’s annual fall celebra-tion will be filling their air with the smell of funnel cakes, the sounds of laughter and joy, light up the night sky with rides through to Saturday, Sept. 26.

The Polk County Fair will kick off Tuesday with student night, where all Polk School District students and any staff showing their IDs will be able to get in free for the evening’s entertainment.

This marks the 54th year of the fair, being held at the Polk County Fairgrounds just off the intersection of the Highway 27 bypass and Highway 278.

Admission will cost $5 for adults and $3 for children. Unlimited ride wristbands will cost $18. Wednesday nights armbands are $15.

Several events are already in store for the fair this year, from the annual arts contests, produce and plant judging, to the beef livestock show and the market lamb show, and much more.

Rides will be on hand again this year – includ-

-ing the ever popular ferris wheel – and of course plenty of games and food vendors as well.

But what Fair President Richard Long is excited about is the entertainment this year.

“It is a good variety,” he said. “We are going to have everything from rock n’ roll to country.”

The fairgrounds will start rocking out at 8 p.m. Tuesday when Radar City takes the stage, and the Exchange Club has a line-up promised to please many different audiences following.

Wednesday night will feature Scarlett Wool as the main act for the night, with Second Baptist Church of Cedartown’s Praise Band opening for the group.

Thursday night, local residents will get special treats starting with the Cheerleading Spirit Competition at 6 p.m., followed by Polk County’s “Dancing With Our Stars,” at 7 p.m., The Ballet Green at 7:30 p.m. and the Halal Praise Team at 8:45 p.m.

Friday’s schedule on the fairgrounds stage kicks off with Ballet Ritmo Latino and will end the night with the Redneck Romeos at 9 p.m.

Fair committee member Jennifer Hulsey said a spot remains open on Friday for bands interested in performing from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Saturday’s lineup starts with Dog Bones at 6 p.m., Elvis (yes, Elvis!) at 7:30 p.m., and Wicked Guns at 9 p.m.

Those interested in getting deals on entry into the fair need not worry, the tradition of Wednesday night $1 off with church bulletins and Saturday night’s $1 for public safety personnel continues.

Senior citizens interested in coming to the fair should participate on Thursday, when those who are 65 or older will be given free entry for the night.
