Political forum coming to County Commission meeting room on Sept. 22

- From Staff Reports

A political forum being put on by the Polk County Chamber of Commerce is scheduled for Sept. 22 to hear from local candidates in coming November municipal elections.

Local candidates will get a chance to voice their thoughts and answer questions from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Polk County Commission meeting room at the Polk County Police Department, 73 Cline Ingram Jackson Road, Cedartown.

The forum, according to a press release, will be held to give “the citizens of Polk County the opportunity to ask questions of these candidates who wish to represent their community.”

Attendees will be given index cards upon their arrival to write down questions, and a moderator will in turn ask those questions of the candidates.

“This political forum will not be a debate, but the opportunity for the candidates to voice their reasons for their election,” the release stated.

Only questions given to the moderator will be asked, and candidates will be given three minutes to respond.

All candidates in local elections this year have been invited to participate, including those of the canceled Rockmart municipal election since only the incumbents have chosen to seek new terms.

This year’s race in Cedartown will have several candidates at the event, including incumbent commission chair Dale Tuck, and local residents Andrew Carter, David Scott Jameson and Patrick McNally.

On hand for Aragon will be former mayor Brenda Gazaway, running for a new term, and incumbent councilman Curtis Burrus, also a candidate for Aragon mayor.

A new round of qualifying for the open Aragon seat on the city council will be open from Sept. 21 through 23. See Page 1A for more.
