This was ex­actly what Coosa coach Todd Wheeler hoped to see af­ter the Ea­gles played two Class AAAAA schools.

He, like ev­ery­one else, just didn’t ex­pect the re­sult to take so long.

“This was one of those football games where we had to re­group and keep play­ing,” Wheeler said. “This is a young football team and I was con- cerned in how they would re­act. But I’m proud of them in stay­ing fo­cused through­out the whole game.”

Coosa stuck be­hind a dom­i­nant run game and a sti­fling de­fense to evis­cer­ate the Rockmart Yel­low Jack­ets, 27-6, on a rain-soaked Fri­day night in Coosa. The win gives the Ea­gles their first win af­ter los­ing to Cass and Riverwood to open the sea­son.

Pa­trick Zin­ner­mon led the Ea­gles with 23 car­ries for 116 yards and two touch­downs, most of that to­tal com­ing in the first half. Wheeler said Zin­ner­mon is slowly de­vel­op­ing into his team’s fea­tured
