Rocky road for Rockmart
This was exactly what Coosa coach Todd Wheeler hoped to see after the Eagles played two Class AAAAA schools.
He, like everyone else, just didn’t expect the result to take so long.
“This was one of those football games where we had to regroup and keep playing,” Wheeler said. “This is a young football team and I was con- cerned in how they would react. But I’m proud of them in staying focused throughout the whole game.”
Coosa stuck behind a dominant run game and a stifling defense to eviscerate the Rockmart Yellow Jackets, 27-6, on a rain-soaked Friday night in Coosa. The win gives the Eagles their first win after losing to Cass and Riverwood to open the season.
Patrick Zinnermon led the Eagles with 23 carries for 116 yards and two touchdowns, most of that total coming in the first half. Wheeler said Zinnermon is slowly developing into his team’s featured
Coosa’s Patrick Zinnermon (23) tries to get by Rockmart’s Ty Overton (9) during Friday’s win against the Jackets.
