Students get Grab-n-go breakfast at local school

- Students at Rockmart Middle School receive assistance from nutriton staff.

The Rockmart Middle School cafeteria staff, managed by Brenda Forsyth, is serving Grab- n- Go breakfast every morning for the students in the commons area.

During this time, the staff serves an average of about 650 students in a short period of time. This is a major benefit to help start the day off right, since industry professionals indicate breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

Students are able to pick up a breakfast as they go to homeroom. There are two choices: a cereal line or a breakfast entrée line. Examples of the entrée include but are not limited to sausage biscuit, chicken biscuit, muffin, waffle, pizza bagel or Pop tarts.

All cereal and grain products are whole grain or whole grain rich meaning it must contain at least 51 % of a whole grain. Fresh fruit or fruit cups, juice and assorted milk are included daily.

The faculty and staff at RMS are encouraging all the students to participate in the breakfast program to help prevent students from being hungry during class and to help keep minds fresh while studying and learning.

Mrs. Forsyth began her career in School Nutrition when her now grown children were in grade school and worked 9 years as a food service assistant, taking classes during the summers to learn the skills needed for a manager’s position.

She was hired in Euharlee as a manager and worked 19 ½ years, then Young’s Grove Elementary for 2 years and has been at Rockmart Middle School for the past 3 years.

Spices, Perfumes, Toxins! is Israeli composer Dorman’s concerto for percussion and orchestra. “The title refers to three substances that are extremely appealing yet filled with danger,” said Mr. Dorman. “Spices delight the palate, but can cause illness; perfumes seduce, but can also betray; toxins bring ecstasy, but are deadly.”

Atlanta Symphony Orchestra principal percussionist Thomas Sherwood and percussionist Charles Settle are the featured performers for the concert.

Tickets are $20-$79. Additional details are available at aso.org.
