Mr. and Mrs. Howard celebrate ‘ golden’ wedding anniversary
David and Peggy Howard were recently honored by their son, Derek, his wife, Suzi and grandchildren, Dalton and McKayla with a reception celebrating their golden wedding anniversary.
Upon arrival guests immediately noticed how the room was decorated. The tables were covered with white table clothes and small white floral arrangements sat upon gold lace doilies. A special arrangement of yellow roses in a vase that once belonged to Essie McCown, Peggy’s mother, centered the honor table. The room was accented with white and gold balloon trees and guests had opportunity to have a photograph made with the honored couple. The photo setting had a decorated lattice screen backdrop designed by family friends, Randy and Karen Stewart.
The guests were greeted and asked to sign the guest book, which was placed on a small oak table in honor of the memory of Maxie McCown, Peggy’s grandmother. A single candle glowed on a table of pictures in memory of those who were no longer living and there was a table of pictures and a slide show representing special events that have occurred in David and Peggy’s 50 years together.
The event was catered by sisters: Jean Akins, Polly McCarty, Donna Vinson and Linda Williams, family friends.
Punch, a wide assortment of finger sandwiches, mixed fruits and vegetables and a variety of homemade salads and cheesecakes were served. Mrs. Polly McCarty made a white, 4-tier anniversary cake accented with cascading yellow roses, baby’s breath and greenery. The cake was topped with a 50th anniversary gold ornament and placed on a small table in memory of Fred and Ruby Pinkard, family friends and the caterers’ parents. The table was covered with a white crochet cloth and was surrounded by lighted yellow tulle. The caterers’ also added personal touches to the décor, including a monogrammed gold H on the watermelon and a hand crafted bride and groom ornament.
