Jose Iglesias appointed to Cedartown Planning Commission at September meeting
Cedartown resident and businessman Jose Iglesias was unanimously approved during the September city commission meeting to serve on the Cedartown Planning Commission.
The appointment was made official by Cedartown commissioners during their regular monthly meeting on Monday, Sept. 14, replacing former member Charles Ellis.
Iglesias, owner of Main Street business Taxes de America, will start on the board immediately.
One of the main func- tions of the planning board is the consideration of applications for rezoning a particular district within the corporate limits of the city. The commission also has the power to make recommendations to the city commission concerning rezoning requests and ordinance amendments.
Iglesias became involved with the City of Cedartown as a student in the 2014 Cedartown Biz Builders program.
The program, geared toward local entrepreneurs, featured a competition among students based off of the television show, “Shark Tank.”
Iglesias presented his idea for business expansion before a panel of judges and was declared the winner of the Cedartown Biz Builder Shark Tank competition.
Cedartown City Manager Bill Fann touted Iglesias as a “perfect choice” to serve on the planning commission.
“He is an active business owner, he’s asked all the right questions and he’s involved in our community,” Fann said. “We are very happy to have him to fill this role in our City.”
