City approves lease agreement with Highland Rivers Health for One Door Polk space

Highland Rivers Health will soon be moving into their renovated space at One Door Polk now that remodeling work is wrapping up and the city commission has approved a lease agreement.

The commission voted unanimousl­y to sign the contract with Highland Rivers at its Sept. 14 meeting, with a stipulatio­n addressing who holds jurisdicti­on if there are legal issues on the property. Highland Rivers, along with Primary Healthcare, is one of the founding members of One Door Polk.

City manager Bill Fann said Highland Rivers Health will pay $11,562 per month for the space in the former Polk Medical Center, and will take up much of the space the emer- gency room that has now been remodeled at the old hospital.

Cheyenne Constructi­on, who won the contract in May with a low bid of $229,017.05, has one more task to complete, Fann said.

“They have to move some sprinkler heads where walls were moved and their part will be done; that should be finished this week with final inspection this week,” Fann said.

Fann explained to commission­ers before the vote that attorneys were still working on the language of an addendum addressing whether Highland Rivers or the city would have jurisdicti­on over legal questions, mainly due to liability.

Fann said once attorneys for the city and Highland Rivers Health approve the language of the agreement, it would be included in the approved contract as an addendum.

Highland Rivers will occupy 21,000-squarefeet, or about half of the 50,000-square-foot space. Tenants in place so far include Georgia Northwest Technical College’s Adult Education program and Primary Healthcare. Space has also been set aside for the Biz Builders Program as well.

Highland Rivers Health will mainly be using their portion of the facility to provide developmen­tally disabled and mental health services.

Fann also reported that the partners are working with the city to decide on final signage for the front of the building. He said that informatio­n on what the sign will look like will be available in the months ahead.
