Lady Bulldogs take top spot at Woodland Invitational
The Cedartown Lady Bulldogs cheerleading squad are starting off their competition run right with their first win of the year over the weekend.
Lady Bulldogs head coach Brigitte Tillery said the cheer squad took first place on Sept. 26 at the Woodland Invitational with their two-and-a-half minute routine over several other local teams.
“It was exciting to get started, but even more exciting to earn a win to open the new competition season,” Tillery said.
“The squad has been preparing the two and one half minute challenging routine full of tumbling, stunting, pyramids, jump sequences, cheer, and dance for months and to be able to execute the third level scoring routine well was worth the hours and hours of hard work on the blue mats.”
The Lady Bulldogs “maxed out on the degree of difficulty on the score sheet,” during the first win, Tillery said. It was a first for the team as well.
The squad typically performs an exhibition the week of their first competition, but this year the girls chose to perform for the CHS student body at the homecoming pep rally.
“Performing the routine at school is a bit tougher for the squad because they are performing in front of their peers, but they put these fears aside and performed excellent this year at the pep rally,” Tillery said.
“I knew when the squad performed strong and solid at the pep rally that they were ready for their first scored performance at Woodland and they didn’t disappoint me.
“I am extremely proud of their performance on Saturday.”
Tillery said there’s still some kinks to work out in the team’s performance, but that it won’t take much to correct problems she saw in the first week’s competition.
“They have issues that need to be worked on, especially in the area of pyramid.” Tillery added.
“They will be working hard this week at practice before the next competition at the University of West Georgia this Saturday,” she said.
