Up for vote a third time: Sunday sales

The Standard Journal - - ELECTIONS 2015 -

Aragon will have a third chance to decide whether to allow local stores to sell beer and wine on Sundays in this year’s municipal election on Tuesday.

Mayor Ken Suffridge said in previous coverage that the four convenience stores in Aragon – Triple R, Wolf’s Grocery, Dunn’s Quick Stop and Pinion Grocery – asked for the Sunday sales to be placed on the ballot again, despite its past failures with Aragon city voters.

The city added it to the ballot ear- lier this year.

“One thing I’ve done is sent a letter – hand delivered – telling the convenience store owners that we’re doing what they asked us to do,” he said. “So we’re putting it back on the ballot for a third time. But it’s not up to the city leaders if it gets passed.”

The second time Aragon gave voters the option (in 2012), it was voted down by just 12 ballots. The first time the measure was on the ballot it was defeated by 4 votes.
