Golden Age group honors local veterans at meeting

A group of local veterans were honored during the recent meeting of the Golden Age at the First Baptist Church in Rockmart.

They include those that served in the United States Armed Forces during World War II, Korea and Viet Nam, including: Jack Raburn, Bobby Gurley, Billy Rowell, Carl Usry, Horace Moon, Guy Beatty, Don Lee, Marvin Bailey, Don Tate, Joe Troy, Dick Tracy, Biddy Tanner, Larry Lawhorn, Jim Wilson, Jim Freeman, Jerry Hornsby, Billy Greeson, John Layfield, Bill Weaver, Gordon Wheeler, and Chuck Tate.

Three visitors – Don Lee, Jerry and Leanne Hornsby – joined those attending. A total of 89 were present.

Dan Casey opened the meeting. Prayer was said for service members, missionari­es, homebound and those in assisted living and convalesce­nt homes. Others on the prayer list were Anne Muiller, T A Willingham, Chuck Pinkard, L C Mullins, Barbara Stininger, Jackie Adair, Fran Long, Joan Gibbs and Katherine Eastwood.

The Golden Agers will continue to collect cans and tabs. These funds are used to help pay for planned activities.

Linda Akins and Anne Wright decorated the tables.

Those celebratin­g birthdays were: Rae Colins, Glenda Head, Margaret Hilley, Martha Holder, Christine McDowell, Edna Miller, Becky Racinhe, Rachel Roper, Evelyn Simmons, Anne Wright. Observing anniversar­ies were Jean and Bill Weaver, and Cindy Ward.

The Dixie Land Band provided a musical program prior to prayer by Greg Thompson.
