Competition cheerleaders head into region championship with win at Northgate Invitational over Callaway, Central

-

The Cedartown varsity cheer squad is heading into their region competition this weekend with another win, this time defeating region foes Callaway and Central Carrollton in 5- AAA at the Northgate Invitational Championship.

Head coach Brigitte Tillery said her ladies had a strange feeling get- ting off the bus over the weekend on Halloween for their first appearance at Northgate High School.

“Adjustment to new gyms and set ups for competitions from week to week is part of competition cheerleading and sometimes adjusting can be a challenge,” Tillery said. “But, this will prepare them for Region and hopefully State Competitions that are approaching in the next couple of weeks.”

The competition cheer squad score fell a bit from last week, giving Tillery and coach Ruff an area to concentrate on for powerful practices to prepare for Region competition this coming weekend.

“We have room for improvement always and this week the team will be concentrating on powerfully executing stunts and precision of executing the pyramid,” Tillery said.

She said the two areas “bring in a high number of points on the score sheet and there is not a lot of room for error to bring in a win.”

Ruff added that “this team is willing to work as hard as needed for a strong routine and they all have positive attitudes so I am confident they will work this week to better themselves individually and as a squad.”

The squad heads to the University of West Georgia Saturday to compete in the region championship, which determines seeding for the upcoming 2-day state championships.

“We are hoping they bring a lot of Cedartown fans to cheer them to help them execute to the very best of their abilities,” she said.
