Small turnout for early voting ahead of Election Day

-

Election day is just starting for some subscribers, and for others it is already over as residents in Aragon and Cedartown make their choices clear in local offices and issues.

Polls open at 7 a.m. (for subscribers who are getting their copy of the Standard Journal on Tuesday,) Nov. 3, and continue through until 7 p.m.

Only two polling stations will be open for this year’s election. Aragon residents who have registered to vote can go to City Hall off Highway 101 at 5th Street to cast their ballots. Cedartown residents may go to the polls at the

Nathan Dean Gym at Northwest Park (also known as Bert Wood Youth Athletic and Recreation Center) located on Lynton Drive.

Votes are tallied at the Board of Elections offices at the County Administration building in downtown Cedartown at 144 West Ave. Election results will be posted online at Polkstandardjournal. com and in the Nov. 11, 2015 edition of the paper.

After several weeks of early voting, the final tally of ballots cast before the polls open were 168 both in person and on paper, according to the Board of Elections.

This year’s municipal elections feature a single issue for Aragon vot- ers to decide on in the form of Sunday sales, since the only candidates on the ballot are Tammy Mulkey to take over for Hunter Spinks on the council, incumbent Curtis Burrus, and former mayor and sole candidate Brenda Gazaway, who is replacing a retiring Ken Suffridge.

Cedartown’s election has four candidates up for two positions on the city commission. Incumbent commission chair Dale Tuck looks to retain her seat, along with three other candidates vying to gain seats in the form of Patrick McNally, Andrew Carter and David Jameson.

The trio all qualified for the election following the decision by Gary Martin not to run for a third term.
